I moved to the Big Island 3 1/2 years ago, after a lifetime in Southern California. I’ve always explored the arts and have worked extensively in ceramics, and dabbled at jewelry fabrication, but I didn’t pursue my secret longing – impressionist style landscape painting – until I moved to Hawaii.
When I stepped off the plane in Hilo, I had a new husband, a brand new career as a self-employed graphic artist, and a lot of time on my hands. I thought a painting class might be a way to meet people. What I found was… a perfect fit.
Now my graphic design business is thriving, and when I’m not working at my computer, I’m exploring the Big Island, capturing its rugged beauty in plein air oil paintings. I’ve found a welcoming community of artists in Hilo, and ongoing inspiration in the ever changing scenery of my new home town.
